I am offering an original silver thaler from 1569, minted in Saxony during the reign of Elector Augustus I of Saxony . The coin dates from the Holy Roman Empire and is a classic example of large silver thalers from 16th-century Europe.
Obverse:
Bust of Elector Augustus I in armor and holding a sword. Around the rim is a Latin legend:
AVGVSTVS DG DUX SAXONIAE SRI ARCHIMARSCHALC ET ELECTOR.
Reverse:
The rich coat of arms of the Wettin dynasty with numerous heraldic fields. Around the rim is the inscription:
COIN NOVA ARGENTEA DVCATVS SAXONIAE.
